Sal Amato Present With Maxy's Fuel At The Capitol Classic

Sal Amato, Maxy's Fuel team driver, was present at the Capitol Classic but some mechanical problems kept him out of the A main.

Here is a report with his own words:

" Well the 09 Capitol classic has come and gone and it was a crazy weekend for me.

Mother nature really put a hurting on this event, Thursdays practice shortened by rain and Fridays qualifying was a wash. I was very excited for this event and had a lot of confidence.
I had nothing but problems leading up to the qualifying and with the bad weather didn't have much time to get things right. The first round I had a decent run but was dealing with a car that turned one way significantly more than the other (bad Servo) even with that I was sitting 9 after first round. Second round was troubled by a bad tire decision as well as a bad 2 speed and I couldn't improve my time. After looking over two speed and going back to round one tire combo I was feeling good about round three and was ready to improve my time. During the third round run I was hit by a another car which caused my battery connector to be broken and lost power. After Qualifying was over I sat Th ( B Main)

As I prepared for the main I had put in a new motor that Maxy helped me set up (clutch and tune). I had made a couple of changes to my setup and was feeling pretty good about a bump up. toward the end of warm up I had some electronic problems causing motor to rev (needed to call 1 min grace) Maxy figured it out and got me ready before the minute was up. At the start of the race I was sitting around mid pack and the car was handling good ,then the two speed problems started again and pretty much continued throughout race causing me to lose power, at this point I realized the bump up was out of reach and just tried to finish the race. When the race was over I had finished fifth giving me third with the 2 bump ups.

The entire weekend was an uphill battle, but with Maxy at my side I never had to worry about runtime, Power or my tune and I am grateful for his support.

Sal Amato "

Thanks for choosing us as your fuel and better luck next time.

Congratulations to our own Maxy Velazco 2009 Capitol Classic Champion on the 1/8th scale masters class.
Here is a brief report on his words:

"Well this past week was held in 301 raceway in Maryland the 2009 Capitol Classic in a week full of emotions, race emotions that is. the practice days went smoothly and i was able to set up my car up so it was perfect for the qualifying rounds.

From the beginning of the qualifiers i was battling for the TQ with Joaquin De Soto every round until in the last round of qualifying with one turn to go i tangled with a lapped car losing the TQ pace that i was running on and finally qualifying in the second place.

Then we went back on the track on Sunday and i noticed that the car was better than ever the conditions seemed to be perfect for ma way of racing shortly after the start tone i took the lead from Joaquin and started to pull away, by the end of the first lap i was half of the straightaway in front of the second place but then i had a close encounter with the wall moving my rear body post out of place but i just got myself together and kept driving noticing that the car wasn't the same ( later it was discovered that the rear sway bar had broken due to the accident ) but after my pit man fixed my body on my first fuel stop i just kept driving it and managed to regain the lead wich took me to winning the 2009 Capitol Classic.

My car and radio system worked perfectly through out the whole week helping me to pull off what appeared to be an impossible victory. I want to thank my sponsors Futaba, Serpent, Maxy's Fuel, RC America and Matrix Tires who made it posiible for me to grab the win.

Maxy Velazco"

Successfull Weekend For Nigel At The Kamikase Invitational Using Maxy's Fue

Maxy's FuelPhotobucket

This past weekend was held in California the Kamikase Invitational race with some Maxy's Fuel drivers in attendance such as DJ Apolaro Sean Lue and Nigel Sim with DJ getting 5th in Sedan Nigel 2nd in 1/8 scale and Sean bumping to the 1/8 scale A main it was a great weekend for the Maxy's Fuel Team.

Here is a brief report of the race on the words of Nigel Sim:

"Hey everyone, This past weekend May 16, & 17, 2009 was the 1st Kamikaze Open Invitational sponsored by my father’s hobby store, Kamikaze Toys and Hobbies, at Crystal Park R/C Raceway, with drivers across the nation from California to Florida. Our own DJ Apolaro and Sean Lue came to visit my home track. We had beautiful weather and we reached the 120 persons entry limit. Saturday’s 1/8th qualifying saw Mike Swauger up front after round one and me in 3rd position. After round 2, I was able to take TQ in front of Mike Swauger by 1 second. In the 3rd round, we saw that it would be another battle to take the top spot, but unfortunately my engine went blew the 2nd lap after flaming out at the end of the warm up. Swauger was now again TQ, Ron Calangi had moved into 2nd and I stayed in the 3rd spot. In 1/10th Sedan, I ran into a lot of lap traffic in 1st and 2nd round. In the 3rd round I played it safe to keep myself in the main event and I landed in the 7th position on the grid. Fellow Serpent racer DJ Apolaro was able to qualify 10th in both classes. Sunday’s main events saw many of our local Team Kamikaze/Team Serpent drivers playing the bump up game with Jonathan Prather doing a wonderful job in the C-main to bump up into the B-main. As he continued onto the B-main, he was in contention every lap to make the event, but unfortunately his motor flamed out before the last pit stop. Jonathan did a wonderful job. But on the other hand we had Sean Lue bumping into the 1/8th A-main event, congratulations! In the 1/10th sedan main event, the car felt really good, but the long main event setup, my car started traction rolling, I waited for my car to come in, but it was too late, so I just drove to finish and I ended up in the 7th position with DJ finishing 5th. For the 1/8th A-main, my plan was to just maintain my position in the 3rd spot, but fortunately I was able to breakaway from the crash at the start to stay in 2nd. Mike Swauger had his exhaust spring wear through his header so he was unable to continue the event. This put me in the lead, holding the position up until the very last part of the race when I tangled with lap traffic causing me to fall back one position and finish 2nd. It was a great weekend for Team Kamikaze, and Team Serpent. I would like to thank my father for putting on this event, Crystal Park R/C Raceway for having us, all the people who support my father’s store and came out to this event. Thanks to all the Team Kamikaze guys for the wonderful entertainment in the pits, Robert Morris for helping me with my electronics problems. And all of my sponsors: Kamikaze Toys and Hobbies
Serpent America
KO Propo America
Maxy’s Fuel
Xceed R/C "

Congratulations guys and keep up the good driving.

 Kamikaze Race

Maxy's FuelAnonymous writes "Hi Guys,

Here is the race report. I have no photos, sorry.

This weekend we had the Kamikaze Race in California. I arrived to the track on Friday to break in some motors. When traction came up I started working on the car and tried to find a set-up for the sedan and 1/8 scale. The sedan was close, but not very fast. The track was bumpy and I needed to learn a line that could allow me to be fast. The typical line was not going to work. In 1/8 scale the car was too pushy. The track was small for 1/8 scale and very technical. My 966 was just a little off.

Qualifying started and I felt good with my sedan. I went out for the first qualifier and my car was pretty good. I was running fast laps and would have placed second for that round. However I had some problems on the pit stop and that killed my run. We are running 7 minute runs, which is new for me. For the second run I did not change anything since my car was good. All of a sudden my car was not that good and I just made sure to finish. They used VHT and not sure what that may do during the heat. The track actually felt like it had more traction in the heat. For the third round I made some changes and it was not good. I did not even finish the run. This meant my one run I finished will have to count, even though it was not a good one. That run placed me last in the "A" and I would have to hope to better my performance in the main. For 1/8 scale my luck was much the same. I only finished one run and it was also a safe run just to finish. This run also put me last in the "A" also.

For the mains I felt good, even with the problem in qualifying. I was one of the faster guys and felt I could improve a lot. In the sedan I stalled at the start and just felt like the tough luck was to continue. On top of that my car was traction rolling and I could not push the car at all. Every time I tried the car was not good. I must have rolled the car about 7 times. With that the car also stalled almost every time I came into the pits. I was able to finish the race and ended up in 5th place. In the 1/8 scale race I felt good in the warm up. My car was really fast and handling well. I started in the the 10th spot and was able to work my way up to 2nd position. My pit man was doing a good job of getting me in and out. I was making some small errors, but was still able to maintain 2nd place. Then 1st place had a problem and I was able to take over the lead. It stayed like this for a while and I had extra pits to make. I was able to keep the lead and battle with 2 other cars back and forth. They had less stops and when I would pit they could take the lead till they pitted. Then I gained enough that I was able to pit and still come out just in front of them. Then it happens. I had my rear belt go out. This was the end of my race. By the end of the race I ended up in the 9th spot.

I must say it was a tough weekend of racing, but a great time hanging out with friends and making new one's. I had not been to the west coast in about 4 years and had never been to this track.

Special thanks to Kevin H. for the pit work all weekend. I would like to thank the race crew for their hard work and to Kamikaze hobbies for holding the event. Also to my sponsors that make all my racing possible. Serpent, Serpent America, Xceed, Maxy's Fuel, Novarossi World, Twister Tires USA, ATS, Paintin Pete, Faskolor, Parma.

Till next race,

DJ Apolaro
